Health Benefits of Coffee
A cup (8 oz) of plain black coffee contains only 2 calories.

What if your favorite drink comes packed with a host of health benefits?

Coffee has long been a subject of debate over whether it’s beneficial or harmful for health. Coffee lovers can rejoice over recent studies which have established that coffee is indeed a healthy drink; of course you need to control the quantity and also nix the additives to truly enjoy its health benefits.

Recent research has linked coffee with many heart benefits, and it’s safe to drink up to 6 cups a day!

According to an article published in Harvard School of Public Health, drinking coffee may reduce several disease risks.

The renowned health organization highlighted four noted health benefits of this ubiquitous morning drink:

Heart Disease and Stroke Risk

According to Harvard’s Study, 54% of American adults who drink coffee every day (average 3 cups per day) have a decreased risk of heart disease or stroke.

Type 2 Diabetes

Research reveals that caffeine may contribute to a transient rise in blood pressure level initially, but the antioxidant level in coffee may improve insulin sensitivity which eventually helps in lowering the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Gallstones

The intake of caffeinated coffee is shown to prevent gallstone formation. According to another study coffee consumption may help in the prevention of symptomatic gallstone disease.

Parkinson’s Disease

Some recent studies have supported the role of coffee consumption in decreasing the risk of Parkinson’s disease. A study of close to 7,000 men and women followed 22 years showed that coffee drinkers had significantly less incidence of Parkinsons compared to the abstainers.

Nutritionists also recommend coffee for its low-calorie content. A cup (8 oz) of plain black coffee contains only 2 calories. However, take note that the calorie count increases drastically (and health benefits decline) when you add sugar, milk and cream to it.

Rx: drink your coffee black or else with fat-free milk or soy milk to lighten and an artificial sweetener and drink up for better health!
